Boating & Fishing

Drop anchor in Palm Coast and the Flagler Beaches! There are plenty of waterways to explore, starting with the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, a large stretch of brackish water just west of the Atlantic Ocean that creates the barrier islands. This canal runs along the Atlantic seaboard and serves as a major waterway for boaters to travel the coast. From there boaters can meander through creeks and marshlands for a day of fishing and relaxation or they can head out to the Atlantic Ocean for a spectacular day at sea. Those looking for a fresh water experience can venture out through Haw Creek to Dead Lake or Crescent Lake to view osprey, great blue herons, turtles and even alligators as they bask in the sun.

Need a place to dock? The brand new municipal Marineland Marina offers slips to dock your boat for a day up to one month. Resort goers will enjoy the Marina at Hammock Beach Resort where slip rental offers up other spectacular amenities. Need something more permanent? The Palm Coast Marina offers slips for those looking to stick around for a while. If you bring in your boat by car or truck, take advantage of boat slops located throughout the county for easy access to the water. No boat, no problem. There are charter fishermen who can take you out! And if motors aren’t your fancy, kayak rentals and guided tours are offered year round.

They don’t call Florida the "Fishing Capital of the World" for nothing! The Sunshine State boasts superb weather year round with 2,276 miles of tidal shoreline and more than 11,000 miles of rivers, streams and waterways. Here you can be sure you’re always within reach of a place to drop your line. A diversity of sport fishes await you with plenty of coastline for surf fishing and a variety of rivers, lakes and estuaries available for brackish and fresh water fishing.

Those fishing off the Flagler Beach Municipal Pier don’t need to worry about purchasing a fishing license as their admission to fish off the pier includes their fishing license for the day while fishing from the pier. There’s also no shortage of boat and kayak launches for those wanting to spend the day on the water. No boat? No problem. Call one of our spectacular charter captains for a day you’ll never forget.

In order to fish in the State of Florida you have to purchase a permit to fish in fresh and/or saltwater. You can buy them at the Tax Collectors office, online or at most bait shops; however, additional charges may apply if the permits are purchased outside of the Tax Collectors office.

The Boating and Angling Guide to Flagler and St. Johns County is now available on the Web. This site provides very basic info about the guide, interactive (pan and zoom) maps, and a Web-enabled and enhanced Resource Directory. Flagler County's Artificial Reef Program

Flagler County's Artificial Reef Program strives to support and provide coastal zone management related programs for the public interest and benefit of Flagler County citizens and tourists.

With this program the county intends to:

  • Enhance fishery resources
  • Facilitate acccess and utilization
  • Minimize conflicts among competing interests

Spotlight - February Fishing Forecast

The largest variable for February fishing is going to be our weather. If we continue to have unseasonably warm weather and high winds, then the best bet for catching more fish will be to refer to your fishing journal for last spring.
